I am so getting a few of these.

Power outlets with two USB power points.  There are couple of spots in the house were this would be really useful, especially for charging iPhones.   What is nice about this model is that the adapters don’t draw power when nothing is plugged in, unlike a wall wart.

The rumor is that these will run for $10 and be available in early 2010.

  1. I dunno — maybe if you had one built into a desk.

  2. At my desk I have a computer and powered USB hubs.

I’m thinking of at least one in the kitchen since the wife typically plugs her iPhone in to charge there, that is one less wall wart to worry about.

  3. The thing is that USB cords tend to be a bit short.

  5. Amazon to the rescue! The cheapest USB extension cables I found were these 10′ ones for $2.50 each.

I’d recommend ordering three or four at pop, since the shipping charge will probably be about the same for four as is for one. I picked up a few USB extension cables a couple of years back. Very handy things to have, especially for wedging devices into laptop slots.

  6. Pretty neat. Since I rent, though, I don’t think I’ll bother for now.
