I do like the look of this HP tablet. For the rumored $600 price tag, it supports an impressive feature list.
- 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor
- an 8.9-inch, multi-touch display
- 32 or 64 GB of Flash storage
- 1 GB of DDR RAM
- Windows Home 7 Premium
- a VGA Webcam
- an Intel UMA graphics chip that supports 1080p, high-definition video playback
Oh, and it supports Flash, has at least one USB port and a SD slot.

The problem they’ll face, is that Apple is following the same pricing strategy that they used with the Iphone: Squeeze every last dime they can out of the early adopters, then slash the price to flood(and therefore dominate) the market. They’ve already slashed the price on the 16gb model to 300 bucks. With the huge price spread, they’re assured of getting all the customers, from the ones that can barely afford it(16gb Wifi model: $299), to the ones that want it loaded(64gb Wifi +3G: $649)
You understand the ways of Apple well. Where did you see the news on the price cuts?
It will be interesting how low they can drive the price of the 16gb WiFi model. That will take some interesting supply chain work.
I do think that they will face more competition in the pad/tablet market than the mobile phone market. The key reason is that there is none of the restrictive mobile phone company contracts involved. Those companies are more interested in protecting their revenue stream through over priced plans and control of the hardware than they are about consumer satisfaction.
